8 Festival Success Stories

11th Annual New Media Film Festival, June 3-4 2020

 

Los Angeles, July 2st, 2019 – The success stories from previous New Media Film Festivals continue to draw in and inspire contestants year round. It is a continuous encouragement to witness the impressive achievements accomplished by recipients, audience members, and participants of the festival.  Since New Media is an infinite catalyst for story & technology, we chose to highlight 8 success stories, as 8 is also an infinity symbol.

Brian Beacock

Brian Beacock stands as one of the best success stories of New Media Film Festival. An actor, producer and writer, Beacock showed his comedy series, McCracken Live! at the 2nd annual New Media Film Festival. After winning the LGBTQ award at the festival, Beacock’ web series, Acting Dead, went on to win an Emmy and Indie Series award in 2016.

 

Bootsy Collins Music Video

The New Media Film Festival was the meeting place of director and producer Oscar Arce and editor, writer and director Noel Lawrence. After their introduction, the two collaborated in producing a legendary music video with American Musician and Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer, Bootsy Collins.

Flatline Experience

CEO and founder of Portal Experience, Julian McCrea, participated on the tech panel at the 2016 New Media Film Festival. Moved by McCrea’s enthusiasm for Virtual Reality, an audience member decided to fund his first production, Flatline Experience. Since then, it has achieved commercial and critical acclaim, and at the New Media Film Festival in 2017, the premiere of the VR project allowed festival attendees to experience it for themselves.

Gregory Blair’s Deadly Revisions

Gregory Blair found his success at the 2012 New Media Film Festival where he participated in the category, Snipler, a 30 Second Pitch. After showing the trailer for his upcoming horror film, prospective backers were so taken with his work that they agreed to fund the production of the movie. The film had its world premiere in Los Angeles in 2013.

Moth Vitals

Nancy Wyllie experienced her big break at New Media Film Festival after premiering her short documentary, Moth Vitals. Since the festival, the documentary has been screened at many other competitions and was chosen to be one of the 28 films out of 800 to be shown at The Darwin Museum in Moscow. Furthermore, Wyllie has been invited to be on a 5 person panel to discuss navigating the film festival landscape.

 

PRENAV’s Hello World

Serving as a robotics and drone company, Prenav created a short video called Hello World to demonstrate its drone’s aerial precision. After winning Best Drone at the 2016 New Media Film Festival, Hello World has helped the company acquire $6.5 million in funding.

 

The Dark and the Wounded

Since winning the grand prize for his series The Dark and the Wounded at the 2017 New Media Film Festival, James Picard’s series has only become increasingly more popular. Recently, Picard was offered $1,000,000 for his “Apparitions” painting. Picard attributes the beginnings of his success to the New Media Film Festival.

The Sparkle

After making many impressive connections at the New Media Film Festival in 2017, filmmaker Lana Lekarinou was able to seek out backers for her film, The Sparkle, leading it to become a great success.
